Three arrested after shooting at Walmart in Grovetown

Three individuals have been arrested following a shooting at the Walmart in Grovetown on Friday.

According to a statement from Maj. Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred in the store’s parking lot after a fight broke out between two females and a woman’s boyfriend who tried to intervene.

The victim, Ja’kel Jordan, 21, was shot in the groin during the altercation. He was able to make it to Piedmont Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound that exited his thigh. Jordan is in stable condition and is reported to be alert. He told investigators that he was attempting to break up a fight when he was shot.

The fight reportedly started when two females, identified as Shamiya Hobbs, 20, and Jazmine McCloud, 19, attacked Jordan’s girlfriend, Keyadah Lee, 23, who had just finished her shift at the Walmart. Lee and Jordan provided statements that corroborated each other’s accounts of the events. They also identified the suspects involved, including the shooter, Jamarion Burton, 20.

The firearm used in the shooting was recovered, along with a phone belonging to Burton, which was found in the parking lot. Investigators were able to track the suspect vehicle using License Plate Reader (LPR) technology, leading them to locate the suspects in Jefferson County.

Burton was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Hobbs and McCloud were charged with aggravated assault and simple battery. All three were denied bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
