Authorities have officially identified two suspects wanted in connection to a fatal shooting on Walker Street Tuesday afternoon, which claimed the life of 29-year-old Cattory McBride.
The suspects, Damien Key, 19, and Trayvone David Cummings, 20, are both facing charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 1900 block of Walker Street in Augusta, near an elementary school. McBride, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds, was rushed to Wellstar MCG Health Hospital but was later pronounced dead at 3 p.m. by Coroner Mark Bowen.
Damien Key and Trayvone Cummings are both considered armed and dangerous, with authorities urging the public not to approach them. Key is described as 5’9″ and weighing 125 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Cummings is 5’3″ and also weighs 125 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Both suspects are known to frequent the Harrisburg neighborhood near Walker Street.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has multiple outstanding warrants for both suspects, and investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Richmond County’s homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the incident. While the motive remains unclear, authorities have not ruled out any connections to McBride’s past criminal activity. McBride’s history of gang involvement and charges related to weapons and drugs is likely to be a factor in the ongoing investigation.
