The National Guardsman accused of killing a Fort Eisenhower Army sergeant has been indicted for his murder.
According to a news release, Natravien Reshawn Landry, 25, of Abbeville, La., was formally charged this week with premeditated murder and use of a firearm during a crime of violence for the fatal shooting of Sgt. Andre S. Stewart at Fort Eisenhower Dec. 14.
The crimes carry a maximum penalty of death or imprisonment for not less than life and a fine of up to $250,000.
Landry is accused of entering the home of his child’s mother at Fort Eisenhower and shooting Stewart, who was visiting, in the chest. He fled in his vehicle and was stopped by authorities in Meriwether County, Ga.
Also indicted in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia in an unrelated case was Fitz Kenney Williams, 33, of Augusta.
Williams is charged with illegal receipt of a firearm by a person under indictment. Williams was previously found not guilty in the 2018 killing of Jamie Owens at the Fox Den apartments in Augusta.
Another Augusta man, Ray Charles Canady III, 52, awaits sentencing in the district court after a guilty plea, according to the release.
Canady pleaded guilty to interference with commerce by robbery and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
Richmond County investigators arrested Canady after he brandished a firearm at a convenience store, threatening an employee before running out with cash and lottery tickets, according to the release.
“Removing guns from the hands of those who are prohibited from possessing them is a vital part of this office’s effort to fight violent crime,” said Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.
