An Augusta man wanted in connection with a murder turned himself in on Friday, but not before marking his 21st birthday with a social media celebration.
Trayvone Cummings, who is accused in the killing of 29-year-old Cattory McBride, posted photos on his Facebook page showing him holding a bottle of liquor, stacks of cash, and a new shirt, with the caption, “To more life.” His date of birth shows that he turned 21 on Thursday.
Cummings, along with 19-year-old Damien Key, is suspected in the brazen shooting death of McBride, which occurred Tuesday afternoon on Walker Street in the Harrisburg neighborhood. The shooting took place around 1:30 p.m. near an elementary school, and McBride, who had multiple gunshot wounds, was rushed to the hospital but later died at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Wanted flyers for the suspects were released Tuesday night.
In a statement, Richmond County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Perry confirmed that Cummings had turned himself Friday night in at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. Meanwhile, Key surrendered a few hours later.
On his Facebook page, where he goes by “Lilman Checkemoff,” Cummings posted a photo of himself lying face down on the floor with the caption: “I made it to see 21.” He also received birthday messages from friends, including one from Curtis Watley, who wrote, “We love and we’re with you, and NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST YOU shall prosper.”
Over two dozen others shared his post and called for him to be freed.
Cummings has a prior arrest record, including a 2021 drug-related charge. The outcome of that case is unclear.
His Facebook page shows several photos of him posing with large sums of money, weapons, and smoking materials. Cummings also has a distinctive “NFL” tattoo on his neck.
At 9:35 p.m. Friday, authorities announced that Key had also surrendered at the jail.
