Augusta man arrested in connection to July murder; One suspect still at large

A 20-year-old man was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with a fatal shooting of a teen that took place last summer in Augusta.

Deontray Denzell Donovan, of the 3500 block of Snowden Drive, was taken into custody without incident around 3:30 p.m. during a traffic stop on Gordon Highway near Olive Road. The arrest was carried out by the U.S. Marshals Southeastern Fugitive Task Force, in collaboration with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) Gang Unit and Crime Suppression Team.

Donovan faces charges in the murder of 16-year-old Sadiq Antonio Brown, who was fatally shot on July 5 at A-Town Wings, located at 2622 Peach Orchard Road. Brown was one of 50 homicide victims last year in Richmond County.

Donovan was one of three individuals involved in the incident. Alongside Donovan, Malcom Bryant, 19, has also been arrested, while 18-year-old Kieran Darnell Walters remains at large.

Sheriff Gino Brantley emphasized the commitment to pursuing violent offenders, stating, “We will do whatever it takes to locate, arrest, and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone who commits a violent crime in Augusta, Georgia. We are extremely grateful for the outstanding work of our team members and the U.S. Marshals Southeastern Fugitive Task Force, as well as the strong partnerships we are building with local, state, and federal agencies.

He continued, “While we are committed to holding those who commit crimes accountable, we also recognize the importance of prevention. More must be done to educate our community and address root causes of violence. Together, with our partners, we are sending a clear message: crime does not pay. If you break the law in Richmond County, we will find you, and you will be held accountable for your actions.”
