This marks the second violent incident involving Kemmerlin. In May 2016, Kemmerlin was the victim of a brutal assault when Gerald Wayne Polk struck him multiple times in the head with a metal handle from a floor jack.

The assault, which took place at a separate location in Augusta, caused serious injury, though Kemmerlin’s condition was later reported as stable and non-life-threatening after he was transported to the hospital for treatment. Polk was later sentenced to three years in prison for the aggravated assault.
