An Augusta mom was arrested Thursday for allegedly beating her 6-year-old son because his teacher sent home a sad-face sticker on his report.
Juanita Moore, 38, was charged with cruelty to children in the first degree. Authorities say the incident occurred during the school year when the boy showed up to kindergarten with bruises on his back, stomach and back of his head. An investigation revealed the mother got upset because the boy came home with a bad report, including a sticker with a sad face on it.
Moore reacted by beating the child with either a belt or extension cord, leaving several bruises and open wounds on the boy’s body, authorities said.
DFACS officials have since placed the boy into foster care along with a sibling. A third child is adult age and was not removed from the home. Moore, who is unemployed and disabled, was arrested Thursday and is being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail.
